FINALLY: CREWMUTTS

After many weeks of teasers from J.Crew in our mailbox, Crewmutts has finally arrived! Have I been watching too much Gossip Girl or is this stuff just classically fabulous?

We're especially fond of the Candy Stripe and Anchors Aweigh sweaters but would surely revel in the glory of the leather backed Tartan leash and collars were Gordy not of the respiratorally challenged (re: mandatory harness) set. And there's a dog bed too!

christmas wishes: introducing the eCrate

Well, December is almost upon us and with that, theoretically, comes the arrival of the long-awaited eCrate from designGO. I have been hesitant to post about this considering the date has been pushed back a few times but I am crossing my fingers that THIS TIME, come the scheduled release date of 12/01, I can stroll down to my local NYC Pet and feast my beady little eyes on this wonder of modern dog design at long last. I swear to you, we are well past the dog crate and I cannot tell you with total certainty that it didn't have a lot to do with the fact that conventional crates are so completely repulsive. So yes, I robbed my dog of a den (it's true!) but I promise you that I pay my penance daily in the form of the warbly bark and resentful eye bugging I get every time I take a seat on the couch and don't have the decency to offer the little prince a lift.

But I digress...

I'm truly a little obsessed with the notion of this crate. It even comes with a custom cover! Please oh please oh please Santa think of me and my fair dog son on Christmas morn? Because there is something about an obtrusive item that (at this point) I need like a hole in the head that I find oh so irresistable...

the ultimate puppy toolkit

We're suckers for catchy graphic design and that was precisely what led us to have a second look at Urban Puppy's Ultimate Puppy Tool Kit in spite of Gordy being well past his puppyhood (or is that debatable?).

The Ultimate Puppy Tool Kit consists of six booklets, a pocket size handbook, and a poster - all based on the principles of early socialization and early prevention. This would make a great gift for a new puppy owner or someone who could still stand to learn a thing or two. And what's more,Urban Puppy is in it for the long haul, with a downloadable homework guide and an offer to subscribe to weekly Puppy Bytes.

GORDY UPDATE: a fond farewell to puppy k two

Oh, Puppy K. We truly missed you over the weekend as we were left with nary a social/training/playdate obligation for Gordy and were simulataneously lamenting having to put tricks class on hold. For that matter, while we were in Virginia, graduation took place so we could share neither the triumph of completion nor offer imagery of all of Gordy's skills put to good use. We can however offer you what summarizes the other facets of Puppy K: dogs ready to party down. Here, a final romp with a costumed Sedgewick...

Rest assured, we learned a lot. We are so happy to report that his walking has seen vast improvements and we're finally not so embarassed to enlist the services of a dog walker. And these days, when he feels like it, he shows impulse control like we have never seen. We'll miss you Denise, Beckett, and Sedgewick! Can't wait to see you again in either the 'hood or the next level.

total furmination

I'll admit it:

Young Gordon posesses a wirey, wiley fur that creeps off his body onto my dark denim wash in such a way that it both adheres itself impossibly and makes me feel like The Dog Lady. To be honest, I am starting to not even notice it anymore - a bad sign, no?

But there's hope!

When we got to talking to either pet or shop owners, THE FURMINATOR was the solution that repeatedly came up. When I was first told about this amazing device I was all, Hey! Didn't I see an Infomercial about that after the late movie ended and Soul Train was over? But touche, once I found it new and unopened for half price on eBAY, this simple little gadget (available in small, medium, large, cat, and equine) turned out to be the answer to our prayers.

Sure, when I forget to use it for a week or so at a time, I'm back to my hair covered ways. And sure, when I choose to Furminate on my lap, I am no better off than when I was before. But my little mister basks in this undercoat releasing yellow apparatus and will actually snuggle up happily whilst being pampered in this way. This from the dog who preferred combs to Kongs for most of his puppyhood... and, by the way, would freak every time we tried to sneak a grooming session which usually resulted in utter failure even during covert naptime attacks. But now we are, as they say, happy campers. Non-hairy ones at that.
